NEW ORLEANS - Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) announced today that it has issued a public works bid to select a contractor for four major transmission main replacement projects. This marks a significant step forward in strengthening the city’s water infrastructure.
TM 1789 Water Transmission Main Replacements include:
• Transmission Main 001 (6th Street)
• Transmission Main 007 (Magnolia, Joseph, and Willow Streets)
• Transmission Main 008 (Cohn Street)
• Transmission Main 009 (Spruce Street and various locations)
These four transmission main replacements have been designed and planned as part of SWBNO’s JIRR (Joint Infrastructure Recovery Request) program and will move forward thanks to a joint funding partnership between SWBNO and the City of New Orleans. SWBNO will contribute $19.3 million from its JIRR funding source, while the City of New Orleans will contribute $12 million. This brings the total investment in these projects to $31.3 million.
This progress is made possible by a FEMA extension. This will give SWBNO the opportunity to move forward addressing these urgent transmission mains outlined in the water distribution immediate action plan and continue building a safer, more reliable water system for residents across New Orleans.
“This partnership reflects what’s possible when the city and SWBNO work together toward a shared goal. These investments will help improve reliable water service for our residents for years to come,” said Randy Hayman, Executive Director of SWBNO.
