Customers have until August 31 to catch up on past-due water bills—without paying late fees
New Orleans, LA — More than 3,400 customers have already taken advantage of Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans’ (SWBNO) special summer offer, which waives all late fees for customers who pay in full or enroll in a payment plan to address past-due water bills.
Since the program launched on June 1st, over 3,000 customers have signed up for flexible, interest-free PromisePay payment plans. An additional 400+ customers have paid off their balances in full—without the added burden of late fees.
Now through August 31st, SWBNO is waiving all late fees for residential, multi-family, and commercial customers who set up a payment plan. That means customers can catch up without extra charges—and without any interest.
“Summer months can be challenging, especially with higher water use,” said M. Ron Spooner, P.E., Interim Executive Director. “This offer gives families and businesses a real opportunity to get current on their bills—without the weight of late fees holding them back.”
To qualify, customers must have a past-due balance of $50 or more and enroll in a PromisePay plan by August 31st. Plans are quick to set up online or by phone, and customers choose the monthly amount and due date that works best for their budget. Late fees are removed before the next billing cycle, as long as the customer stays current on their plan and future bills.
“If you’ve been thinking about getting caught up, this is a great time to do it,” Spooner added.
This summer offer builds on the success of SWBNO’s growing payment plan program, which has already helped more than 22,000 customers since launching in early 2024. Today, nearly 90% of active plans are on track, and thousands of customers are already making steady progress toward reducing their past-due balances.
