Water Closures on the 1100 Block of South Rampart St; Slightly Lower-than-Normal Pressure Possible

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, March 13, 2024 2:15 PM

NEW ORLEANS- Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) crews will perform two water valve closures on Thursday, Mar. 14 to facilitate the tie-in of a new 20-inch water main on the 1100 block of South Rampart Street and to facilitate the removal of a valve at the intersection of Loyola Avenue and Calliope Street.  We do not expect any customers to be without water during these closures. Weather permitting, SWBNO crews will begin the closures at 8 a.m. Thursday, Mar. 14. The water closures are expected to last until approximately 5 p.m.

This 20” water main supplements much of the water supply to the Central Business District and surrounding neighborhoods, therefore resulting in potential lower-than-normal water pressure in these locations. While a significant pressure drop is not anticipated, some customers may experience slightly lower than normal pressure, especially upper floors of multi-story buildings.

While the valve closures are underway, crews will monitor water pressure throughout the city. If pressures dip below 20 psi, we will notify the public of the need for a precautionary boil water advisory.

Customers who are experiencing very low or no water pressure are directed to call our Emergency Call Center at 504-52-WATER; SWBNO is open every day, 24 hours a day to serve you.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to maintain and improve your water system.
