For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 25, 2024 12:09 PM
UPDATE as of noon on Friday Jan. 26, 2024
SWBNO crews were monitoring water pressure during the test closure that was scheduled today and as pressure began to drop towards 30psi, the test closure was reversed and crews re-opened water valves.
Pressures should be returning to normal, especially for upper floors of multi-story buildings. The pressures on the streets did not fall below 20psi, therefore, no precautionary boil water advisory is needed.
This test water closure will be rescheduled at a later date, which will be announced once determined.
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) crews will perform a test water valve closure on a 30” transmission main on S Claiborne Avenue between Canal and Cleveland Streets. Weather permitting, SWBNO crews will begin closing the valve on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, beginning at 8:00 a.m. This test water closure is expected to last for approximately four hours. This test closure is in preparation for a permanent repair of the 30” water main which will be performed after Carnival season and Mardi Gras.
The 30" water main is one of six large transmission mains that provides water to the East Bank, which means there are redundancies in the water distribution system. Based on previous closures, we do not expect anyone to have any issues with water pressure.
While the test water closure and repair work are underway, crews will monitor water pressure throughout the city. If pressures dip below 20 psi, we will notify the public of the need for a precautionary boil water advisory.
Customers who are experiencing very low or no water pressure are directed to call our Emergency Call Center at 504-52-WATER; SWBNO is open every day, 24 hours a day to serve you.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to maintain and improve your water system.
