Update: Traffic Advisory Temporary Street Closure at St. Bernard Ave. and North Broad St.

For Immediate Release: Friday, June 9, 2023 12:48 PM

NEW ORLEANS —  Beginning on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 6:30 a.m. Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) contractor Wallace C. Drennan, will implement a temporary street closure in the 2600-3000 block of St. Bernard Ave. between Broad St. and Gentilly Blvd. for approximately two weeks. The closure is necessary to accommodate waterline installation work as part of the St. Bernard Transmission Main construction project.  Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

During this time St. Bernard Avenue between Broad St. and Gentilly Blvd. will not be accessible to vehicular traffic. The roadway is expected to reopen on Friday, June 23, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m. As construction continues in the area, SWBNO outreach will update the public as the project progresses.

We appreciate your patience as we upgrade your water system.

Transmission Main Projects

The replacement of the 50-inch water transmission main in the 2700 block of St. Bernard (TM002 - St Bernard Ave) is the 5th Transmission Main Project that SWBNO has replaced since 2021. This transmission main program is funded by FEMA and managed by SWBNO in cooperation with the City of New Orleans as part of the Joint Infrastructure Recovery Roads (JIRR) Program.

There are six future transmission main projects scheduled. These projects are needed to proactively replace water lines as part of SWBNO’s commitment to infrastructure resiliency and reliability, as outlined in our five-year strategic plan.

Questions about this project or Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans should be directed to 504-52-WATER (92837) or outreach@swbno.org.
