Canal Street lake-bound traffic lanes at N. Carrollton Ave. closed for water system repairs

For Immediate Release: Sunday, October 6, 2019 4:56 PM

A contractor working for the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) will be performing repairs to the drinking water system in the 4000 block of Canal Street starting Monday, Oct 7.

The work will require the closure of two lakebound travel lanes on Canal Street between North Pierce Street and North Carrollton Avenue. The left and center lanes in that block is expected to be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Wednesday. While the far-right, curbside lane will be open, we advise motorists to avoid the area as much as possible until the work is completed.

The repairs will restore two 24-inch water valves. We use valves throughout the city to manage or reroute the flow of drinking water with the intention of supplying continuous service to customers while making repairs or responding to emergencies.

The contractor making the repair is Wallace C. Drennan Inc. A map of the site is attached.
