SWBNO to replace water main valves in Desire area; low water pressure possible

For Immediate Release: Friday, July 19, 2019 9:25 AM

NEW ORLEANS -- The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) will be replacing two water main valves Saturday night, July 20, in the Desire area. The work will take place overnight because it will likely cause low water pressure for nearby residents and businesses.

The valves to be replaced are located at Louisa Street and Higgins Boulevard, and at St. Ferdinand Street and Higgins.

Water pressure likely will be impacted between 10 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday in the blocks surrounded by Almonaster and Florida avenues and France and Alvar streets. A map of the area is attached.

Crews are replacing the valves to minimize the impact on residents' water service of a necessary future water main repair project near Louisa and Higgins.

New Orleans' water distribution system has hundreds of valves across the city that can be opened or closed to isolate sections of pipe that may need to be repaired or replaced.
