SELA-related water line work near France Road and Almonaster Avenue this week may impact water pressure

For Immediate Release: Monday, April 22, 2019 3:48 PM

NEW ORLEANS – A contractor working under the federal Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Program (SELA) will be relocating a water line this week to accommodate improvements to the Florida Avenue drainage canal.

To facilitate the work, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) on Tuesday, April 23, will close valves to isolate a 48-inch water main near France Road and Almonaster Avenue. This may impact water pressure for residents and businesses in the Upper and Lower 9th wards.

The valve closure will begin at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The SELA contractor, Boh Brothers Construction, estimates the water line relocation project will take the remainder of the week. Water service to that 48-inch main should be restored by 6 a.m. Saturday. Because water service will be routed around the work, customers should not experience major impacts. Please report any changes in water pressure, however, by calling 52-WATER.
