Temporary Pump Issues During Recent Inclement Weather

Multiple neighborhoods experienced over 2-inches of rain in 1 hour. Uptown, Hollygrove and Carrollton had over 3.5 inches in 1 hour.
This would always cause some street flooding in our City; however, we experienced issues with two of our pumping stations, see below:

  • We had an issue with pumps at DPS 7 that resulted in high water levels in the lower Lakeview area & Mid City for about 1.5 hours.

  • Pritchard Pump Station in Hollygrove only had 1 pump on when it should have had 2. While this has been resolved - water levels still remain high in this area.

  • We are aware of major flooding in Uptown, particularly along Claiborne Ave. This appears to be a catch basin issue, and we will be investigating ASAP

  • The Carrollton Underpass had to be closed; the pump at this location was pumping. However, when the Palmetto Canal levels are high, it is difficult to pump additional water into the canal.

  • The Canal and I-10 Underpass also has high levels, but water is draining.

  • The Underpass at Marconi and City Park also had high levels but water is draining.

You can view the daily rainfall (in inches) on the Weatherwise map as well as our equipment status on our Pumping & Power dashboard.
