Erato St Sewer Relocation Traffic Advisory

On Monday, May 11th, Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) contactor, BLD Services, will begin a project to facilitate sewer main relocation on Erato St which will result in several road and lane closures in the nearby area throughout the duration of this project. We have updated the traffic control plan to be separated into two phases. The first phase of the sewer relocation work is detailed below. We will communicate ahead of the second phase of traffic control accordingly.

In general, crews will work between 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For all traffic interruptions, signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing are onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

LOCATION:

  • Washington Ave (river bound) will be closed to traffic from S Norman C Francis Pkwy to Earhart Blvd.
    • Traffic on Washington Ave will be routed to take S Norman C Francis to Martin Luther King Jr Blvd back to Washington Ave
    • Earhart Blvd will remain open throughout the project.
  • Washington Ave (lake bound) will have lane reductions starting after S Lopez St and up to N Norman C Francis Pkwy to accommodate site safety and the protected bike lane.
  • Northbound S Norman C Francis Pkwy will be closed from Earhart Blvd to Washington Ave throughout the duration of this project.
    • Vehicular traffic will be routed to take Earhart Blvd to Calliope St and back to S Norman C Francis Pkwy.
    • Cyclists and pedestrians will be routed to use the sidewalk on Earhart Blvd (downriver side) and the protected lane adjacent to the neutral ground on Washington Ave (lake bound) to get back to N Norman C Francis Pkwy.
  • Erato St between Northbound Norman C Francis and Southbound Norman C Francis will be closed throughout the duration of this project due to the median being utilized for materials and storage. We have coordinated with the Dept of Parks and Parkways to accommodate this staging.
  • S Rendon St will be open to local traffic only.

WORK SCHEDULE: The first phase of the sewer relocation work (map attached) will last until late Summer 2026, weather and other emergencies permitting.

TRAFFIC IMPACT: Crews are relocating a sewer force main on Erato St. Street closures and lane closures in the immediate area are necessary to facilitate the work.
