For Immediate Release: Friday, June 30, 2023 10:22 AM
SWBNO contractors and crews continue to work on an emergency repair of a 50" tramission water main at St Bernard Ave. and Duels Street. This large water transission line serves parts of Gentilly, New Orleans East, and the Upper and Lower Ninth Wards.
The final stages of the repair will begin tonight, June 30 at 10:30 p.m. to minimize disruption to customers and visitors during the busy holiday weekend. The repair is expected to be complete by Saturday, July 1 at 6 a.m. Customers may experience lower-than-normal water pressure while repairs are ongoing.
While a significant pressure drop is not anticipated, some customers may experience slightly lower than normal pressure, especially upper floors of multi-story buildings. During the emergency work, crews monitor water pressure throughout the city. If pressures dip below 20 psi, we will notify the public of the need for a precautionary boil water advisory.
Customers who are experiencing very low or no water pressure should always call our Emergency Call Center at (504) 52-WATER; we are open 24/7 to serve you.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to maintain your water system.
Transmission Main Projects
The replacement of the 50-inch water transmission main in the 2700 block of St. Bernard (TM002 - St Bernard Ave) is the 5th Transmission Main Project that SWBNO has replaced since 2021. This transmission main program is funded by FEMA and managed by SWBNO in cooperation with the City of New Orleans as part of the Joint Infrastructure Recovery Roads (JIRR) Program.
There are six future transmission main projects scheduled. These projects are needed to proactively replace water lines as part of SWBNO’s commitment to infrastructure resiliency and reliability, as outlined in our five-year strategic plan.
Questions about this project or Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans should be directed to (504) 52-WATER (92837) or outreach@swbno.org.
