Major Repair Tonight: Lower Pressure Potential After 9 PM

For Immediate Release: Monday, February 21, 2022 4:44 AM

Tonight, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) will perform a critical repair to a broken valve on a 50” water main near General Ogden and Nelson Streets. To perform the repair, crews will isolate and empty the 50” main, which supplements the water supply to Mid-City, Lakeview, Gentilly, and New Orleans East.

Last week’s test closure was successful, and residents should expect the same impact during the repair that they experienced during the test closure on Feb. 14.

To minimize the potential impact, crews are scheduling the repair so potential pressure impacts will take place after 9 p.m. Crews expect to work through the night until the repair is completed.

Upper floors of multi-story buildings will potentially experience the lowest pressure. Upper floors of downtown buildings could also experience lower-than-normal pressures, especially those without booster pumps.

While the repair is underway, crews will monitor water pressure throughout the city. If pressures dip below 20 psi, we will notify the public of the need for a precautionary boil water advisory.

Customers who are experiencing low or no water pressure should always call our Emergency Call Center at 504-52-WATER; we are open 24/7 to serve you.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to maintain your water system.
