Sewerage and Water Board Working to Repair Leak at Carrollton Water Plant, Residents in New Orleans East Should Expect Lower than Normal Water Pressure

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 13, 2020 9:15 AM

New Orleans – The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) is working to repair a leak at the Carrollton Water Plant. Until the repair is made, residents farthest from the plant, in New Orleans East and the Lower 9th Ward, should expect lower than normal water pressure. There is currently not an estimated time for the repair to be complete.

We are constantly monitoring water pressure thought the city. At this time, pressure has not dropped below 20 psi, which is the mandated threshold to call a boil water advisory.

Background

Water leaves our Carrollton Water Plant at approximately 70 psi. As it travels across the city through our network of water mains, pressure naturally decreases the further away from the plant it gets. That is why areas farthest from the plant are experiencing impacts.
