Traffic Advisory: Temporary Street Closures and Water Disruption in Uptown/Carrollton, French Quarter and CBD

New Orleans, La - The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) contractor, Boh Bros Construction, is scheduled to make multiple water main and water valve repairs in the Uptown/Carrollton, French Quarter and Central Business District neighborhoods. The contractor will be executing street and lane closures and one water disruption to facilitate repairs. The closure information and sequencing are provided below.

Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing are onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.


Thursday 12/19-Thursday 12/26 Work Phases in Uptown/Carrollton:

  • Locations:
    • Cherokee St at Zimpel St – 6” Water Valve Replacement
    • Oak St at Lowerline St – 4” Water Valve Replacement
    • Pine St at Zimpel St – 12” Water Valve Replacement and manhole build
  • Work Schedule: Beginning Thursday 12/19/24 crews will mobilize and begin street closures to facilitate water valve replacements. Crews will attempt to open the roadway overnight and over the weekend. The water valve replacements are scheduled for Monday 12/23 (see closure impacts below).
    • Cherokee St at Zimpel St and Oak St at Lowerline St will be complete and streets will be back open by Tuesday 12/24.
    • Pine St at Zimpel St street closure will remain in effect until Thursday 12/26 after crews have completed repairs and backfilled the location.
  • Traffic Impact: (see photo attached to press release)
    • Oak St traffic will be closed at Lowerline St
    • Cherokee St from Zimpel St to Oak St will be closed to through traffic
    • Zimpel St from Lowerline St to Pine St will be closed
    • Pine St traffic will be closed at Zimpel St
  • Water Closure Impact: Monday 12/23/24 from 8am to 2:30pm crews will be performing a closure that will temporarily disrupt water services to the following areas:  
    • Zimpel St from S Carrollton Ave to Pine St
    • Cherokee St from Zimpel St to Oak St
    • Lowerline St from Zimpel St to Jeannette St
    • Oak St from Lowerline St to Adams St
    • Pine St from Zimpel St to Jeannette St
    • Plum St from Pine St to Adams St
    • Burdette St from Zimpel St to St Charles Ave
    • Short St from Zimpel St to Jeannette St


Thursday 12/19 Work Phase in French Quarter:

  • Location: 527 Conti St
  • Work Schedule: The 500 block of Conti St will be closed on Thursday 12/19 in order to permit crews to repair a 12-inch water line. Crews will backfill after repairs are completed and the Dept of Public Works will be paving under their Right-Of-Way Contract.
  • Traffic Impact: Traffic on Conti St from Chartres St to Decatur St will be closed to through traffic.  


Friday 12/20 Work Phase in French Quarter:

  • Location: 225 Clinton St
  • Work Schedule: The 200 block of Clinton St will be closed on Friday 12/20 in order to permit crews to repair a 12-inch water line. Crews will backfill after repairs are completed and the Dept of Public Works will be paving under their Right-Of-Way Contract.
  • Traffic Impact: Traffic on Clinton St from Bienville St to Iberville St will be closed to through traffic.


Monday 12/23 – Tuesday 12/24 Work Phases in CBD:

  • Locations: 
    • Earhart Blvd (river bound) at Freret St
    • Calliope St (river bound) at Simon Bolivar St.
  • Work Schedule: Monday 12/23 crews will mobilize and implement lane closures until Tuesday 12/24 to facilitate repairs and paving operations.
    • Boh Bros will adjust a water valve vault cover on Earhart Blvd (river bound) at Freret St.
    • SWBNO crews will repair a 6-inch water valve on Calliope St (river bound) at Simon Bolivar. These lane closures will occur Monday 12/23 – Tuesday 12/24 to permit these repairs and paving operations.
  • Traffic Impact:
    • A right lane closure will be implemented on Earhart Blvd (river bound) in between S Robertson St and Freret St.
    • A left lane closure will be implemented on Calliope St (river bound) and Simon Bolivar St.
