Lynes “Poco” Sloss to serve as SWBNO President Pro Tempore

On Wednesday, May, 17, 2023, the Board of Directors at the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) elected Lynes “Poco” Sloss to serve as President Pro Tempore. Sloss has served on the SWBNO Board since 2018. He also serves as SWBNO’s Finance Committee Chair.

Mayor Cantrell remains the SWBNO Board President. The Pro Tem acts as President in the Mayor’s absence and serves for a two-year term.

“The way we continue operating the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans in a more effective manner is by ensuring that vital leadership remains in place on all levels,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “Mr. Sloss has served the residents of New Orleans as a member of this Board and several others by bringing his technology expertise to the table to help move the utility toward a higher level of efficiency. He and I have a level of understanding of the support and governance needed, and I thank him for stepping up to do the work and to continue serving in this capacity.”

Sloss currently serves on the Board of Directors as Chairman of Bellwether Technology Corporation, an Information Technology consulting company he cofounded in 1980, as well as the Canal Barge Corporation. He is a former Chairman the Bureau of Governmental Research, the Audubon Nature Institute Board and the Children’s Museum Board of Directors and a former board member of the New Orleans Planning Commission, New Orleans Museum of Art and Trinity Episcopal School.

“Poco has been tremendously supportive to me and my leadership team. He is engaged, insightful and has been instrumental in many of the improvements we have made in the past several years,” said SWBNO Executive Director Ghassan Korban. “We also thank Dr. Duplessis for her service as Pro Tem and we are grateful to her and all our other board members who continue to serve.”

Dr. Tamika Duplessis, has served as SWBNO President Pro Tem for the past eight years and will remain on the Board as New Orleans’ Council District E representative as Chair of the Board’s Governance Committee.
