Station D Sewer Force Main Break Repaired

For Immediate Release: Monday, August 14, 2023 8:20 AM

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) has repaired a second break in the 60-inch sewer force main at Station D, located at 2800 Florida Avenue. The bypass to the Mississippi River has been shut off and all wastewater is being treated at SWBNO's Eastbank Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The second repair was completed on Friday, Aug. 12, which was ahead of the anticpated deadline of Aug. 20. Crews monitored the site over the weekend to make sure no additional breaks occured.

“As we've said, this sewer force main is over 60 years old. Due to the age of the pipe, we faced additional leaks after the initial repair," said Ghassan Korban, SWBNO Executive Director. “Our crews worked dilegently and expeditiously to repair the sewer force main ahead of schedule."

SWBNO remained in ongoing communication with the relevant regulatory authorities as well as downstream water utilities during the repairs. There were no reported impacts to customers.
