KIND OF WORK:
Beginning professional civil engineering work in the research, design and construction of engineering projects; and related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering.*
(This requirement is waived for applicants who possess an active Louisiana Engineer Intern license).
AND
Possession of a certificate from the Louisiana State Board of Professional Engineers and Land surveyors stating that the applicant has been certified and enrolled as an Engineer Intern.*
IMPORTANT: Out-of-State registrations are acceptable. However, any applicant who is not registered as an Engineer Intern in Louisiana must, if hired, show proof of such registration during his or her probationary period. No person may receive permanent status until this requirement has been met, and no probationary period may extend longer than one (1) year.
Field work may be required for some engineering positions. Employees may be required to have automobiles for some positions. An automobile allowance is usually granted when this is a requirement.
* Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify license(s) and/or education claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
KIND OF EXAMINATION:
A qualifying review of education and certification.
This is a non-competitive original entrance examination in accordance with Rule V, Section 8.1 (b) of the City Civil Service Rules.
