Skilled mechanical and electrical work in the operation of large pumping stations for water distribution, drainage and sewage disposal; and related work as requried.
Distinguishing Features of Work
This work involves responsibility for the proper operation and maintenance of pumps, motors switchboards and auxiliary apparatus on an assigned shift at a large water, sewage, or drainage pumping station. Work entails seeing that all mechanical and electrical equipment functions in proper operational condition; maintaining proper pumping pressures, and keeping necessary plant records. The employee normally supervises a few helpers who are engaged in unskilled duties of plant operation and maintenance work is usually performed independently according to standard operating methods; however, on unusual problems the employee secures the advice or decision of a chief operator or engineer before taking action.
Minimum Qualifications
Permanent status with the Sewerage and Water Board in a lower related class of work and six (6) months related experience in a pumping station.
NOTE: Some positions may require a current Louisiana Commercial Driver's License.
Kind of Exam
This is a non-competitive promotional examination limited to permanent employees of the Sewerage and Water Board in accordance with Rule V, Section 8.1(d) of the City Civil Service Rules.
The examinations will consist of a verification and evaluation of related training and experience.
