Kind of Work
Skilled mechanical and electrical work in the operation of large combination water pumping and power distribution stations of the Sewerage and Water Board system and related work as required.
Distinguishing Features of Work
The incumbents of these positions are required to operate not only pumps, motors, gates, valves and the auxiliary pumping apparatus, but in addition are responsible for the operation of large frequency changers and synchronous motor units and for the dispatching of electric power to other operating units whenever necessary. Work also involves the supervision of unskilled helpers engaged in routine plant operation and maintenance duties.
Employee normally performs his duties without supervision in accordance with standard operating procedures, but advice and assistance on unusual or technical problems is usually available.
Minimum Qualifications
Permanent status with the Sewerage and Water Board in a related class of work at a lower pay grade and six (6) months of related experience in a large combination water pumping and power distribution station.
The ability to operate any equipment required by the position. Applicants must submit a signed statement from their supervisor stating that they have the required experience and ability within two weeks of submitting an application.
NOTE: Some positions in these classifications may require a current Louisiana Commercial Driver's License.
Kind of Exam
A qualifying review of training and experience.
This is a non-competitive promotional examinations limited to permanent employees of the Sewerage and Water Board in accordance with Rule V, Section 8.1(d) of the City Civil Service Rules.
