South Claiborne water main repairs complete, Boil Water Advisory still in effect

For Immediate Release: Saturday, May 4, 2019 12:54 PM

The Sewerage and Water Board has completed repairs to a 30-inch water main that broke Friday, May 3, 2019 on South Claiborne Avenue near Soniat Street. The precautionary boil water advisory for an area of Uptown, however, remains in effect.

Water quality testing is underway.

SWBNO crews and contractors worked through the night to complete the repairs to the 114-year-old main. Pressure had stabilized Friday afternoon, allowing testing to begin. That process generally takes about 24 hours to yield results. SWBNO works with its partners at the Louisiana Department of Health to protect the health and safety of New Orleans residents.

SWBNO will notify residents when the advisory is lifted.

Localized water pressure may fluctuate as crews flush the water lines after the repair. The far right lane on eastbound South Claiborne near Robert and Soniat streets will remain closed to traffic as crews continue to restore the site of the break.
