Semi-skilled and specialized field work in reading and maintaining residential water meters and investigation complaints; and related work as required.

Position requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and working outside.


Distinguishing Features of Work

The work involves the making of service calls on an assigned route for purpose of maintaining residential service.  New employees are normally assigned more routine phases of this work level, meter reading, and making inspection or minor meter adjustments and repairs.  As more experience is gained, employee may be assigned the more difficult inspections or repair duties.  Work includes frequent contact with customers often involving the investigation of complaints.
Assignments are given verbally or written. Specific assignments and work instructions are received, but employee works independently in the field, referring unusual or difficult questions to a superior for decision.  The employee may on occasion supervise and/or train laborers and maintenance workers to assist with assigned tasks.

1) A valid driver's license*
2) A High School Diploma or G.E.D. Proof of graduation (either High School Diploma or G.E.D Equivalency Diploma issued by a state department of education)*

2) Permanent status with the Sewerage and Water Board and four (4) years of full-time experience with the Sewerage and Water Board.

* Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and valid driver's license claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
