Kind of Work

Mechanical work in the operation of a water purification plant on an assigned shift; and related work as required.

Distinguishing Features of Work

Work is of a repetitive mechanical nature with responsibility for continuous operation of the gravity filters of chemical application equipment used in the purification and sterilization of the City's water supply; for the making of basic chemical and physical tests, for the preparation and use of various chemical mixtures and solutions, and for making minor operating repairs and adjustments.  Operations work under the general direction of a supervising operator and a technical engineer, referring to them unusual operating problems.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED issued by a state department of education.*

One (1) year of related experience in a water purification plant.

Current Class I Water Treatment License issued by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.*

NOTE: Some positions may require a current Louisiana Commercial Driver's License.

* Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and license claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.

Kind of Exam

The examination will consist of a verification and evaluation of related training and experience.
