Search to Fill Open Seat on SWBNO Board of Directors Begins

The Board of Directors for the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) has announced the start of the search to fill an open seat on the 11-member governing panel.

The appointee must be a retired civil engineer who lives in City Council District D, which encompasses Gentilly, Pontchartrain Park, Lakeshore, Lake Vista, Lake Terrace, Gentilly Woods, Desire, and parts of Treme, 7th Ward, and New Orleans East, among other neighborhoods. Those requirements are set by state statute.

The process for selecting a board member requires multiple steps. SWBNO will advertise the open position twice in the local newspaper and collect applications from interested persons. If you are interested, please respond by sending a completed application form, detailed resume and affidavit verifying you possess the proper eligibility requirements, professional qualifications and experience outlined in the law.

You can email us at and we will send you an application packet. The completed packet should be submitted to the attention of Executive Director Ghassan Korban, 625 St. Joseph Street, New Orleans, LA 70165. Please call 504.585.2190 if you have any questions.

Once all applications are received -- the deadline is the close of business Friday, Nov. 15, 2019 -- a selection committee will choose three prospective nominees to send to Mayor LaToya Cantrell, who also serves as president of SWBNO's Board of Directors.

Mayor Cantrell may select one nominee from the final list to be ratified by the City Council.

The SWBNO Selection Committee is comprised of representatives from the following organizations: Dillard University, Loyola University, Tulane University, Xavier University, Delgado Community College, Southern University at New Orleans, University of New Orleans, New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, New Orleans Regional Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Urban League of Greater New Orleans.
