Water Help Program
The Sewerage and Water Board has approved a Water Help Program to assist economically disadvantaged customers in paying their water bills. This program combines customer contributions with Sewerage and Water Board matching funds to create a fund administered by Total Community Action.
To Contribute
Add exactly $1.00 to your monthly payment. If any amount other than $1.00 is added to the payment, it will not be accepted as a contribution, but will become a credit on the bill.

If you wish to contribute more than $1.00 or if you are not a customer, mail a separate payment to Customer Service, indicating that it is to be directed to the Water Help Program.
To Apply For Assistance
Customers wanting assistance should apply in person to the Plan Administrator for a determination of eligibility.

Eligibility Requirements
  1. Customer must be resident of Orleans Parish.
  2. Customer must be at least 62 years old, or disabled or handicapped, as determined by the Social Security or Veterans Administrations.
  3. Customer must have received a 10-day disconnect notice.
  4. The combined income of all members of the household must be within the current poverty level guidelines of the area.
  5. The house must be a single dwelling.
The customer must bring the following information to the Plan Administrator
  1. Customer must present the 10-day-cut-off notice from the Sewerage and Water Board
  2. Customer must provide proof of age (driver's license, birth certificate, or another authentic document).
  3. Customer must provide proof of physical disability if under the age of 62.
  4. Customer must provide proof of income (award letter or four consecutive payroll check stubs).
  5. Must be a customer of record and have an active account.
  6. Account must not be in dispute status.
Contracts
Customers who are not eligible for the Water Help program may be granted a payment contract to help them pay their bill. A payment contract allows you to pay your balance over several months. Payment contracts are only available to customers who have received a notice of delinquency.

When Customer is Unable to Pay Contract
Once a contract has been granted, the required contract payment plus the current monthly water and sewerage charges must be paid by the due date. If the payment is not received by the due date, the meter may be removed without further notice.

To Restore Water Service
When a contract is broken, the total amount due to the Sewerage and Water Board plus a meter removal/reset fee and a deposit may be required in order to restore service.
