Algiers Water Treatment Plant Critical In Supplying Water To Private Industry
|
Sewerage and Water Board officials and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals will be available on Thursday November 3 at 1:00 p.m. to share with the media the critical role the Algiers Water Treatment Plant has maintained in post Hurricane Katrina operations. The plant has continued to provide safe drinking water, not only to its regular Algiers customer base but also to private industry including CBD hotels, cruise ships and other communities without potable water. The EPA has been responsible for the inspection process for water delivery trucks that transport the water supply to designated locations.
For weeks after Hurricane Katrina, the Algiers Water Treatment Plant was the only source of potable water in the New Orleans area. Thus, the business of potable water delivery was developed. The water truck distribution process could only be accomplished with EPA inspections of the tanks. The inspection process includes dropping sensors into the thank. These sensors measure for contaminants. Over forty 5,000 gallon trucks are serviced by the Algiers Water Treatment Plant daily.
