|
Parts of Uptown and the Central Business District will experience water outages and lower-than-normal pressure Saturday and Sunday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. while the Sewerage and Water Board repairs a 30-inch valve on a major feeder line for the area.
Areas expected to be affected are Magnolia from Cadiz to Girod, Earhart from Freret to S. Claiborne, Girod from Magnolia to LaSalle, LaSalle from Girod to Poydras, Loyola from Poydras to Canal and Poydras from S. Claiborne to S. Rampart.
Other nearby areas may also notice a drop in water pressure.
Hospitals, hotels, large buildings and residents in the area have been notified, as well as the New Orleans Fire Department.
Inbound Earhart Boulevard will be reduced to one lane of traffic at the intersection of Magnolia while repairs are underway.
Marcia St. Martin, S&WB interim executive director, said, "We apologize in advance for any inconvenience to our customers, but this repair is crucial for the integrity of the water system in the area for fire protection and personal needs."
